The department for Electrochemistry and Electroplating at Ilmenau University of Technology (TUI) consists of approx. 30 members including scientific and technical staff. For the first five years the professorship is supported by the Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik (ZVO), the German association for surface finishing. The research focuses on fundamental and applied aspects of electrochemistry, such as electroplating and electrochemical storage and conversion of energy. For the project proposed here the experience of the group in the field of composite coatings and ionic liquids is highly relevant.

Previous relevant experience at TUI:

  1. Several projects funded by the German research foundation (DFG) on the fundamentals of composite coatings and ionic liquids as novel reactive medial for electrochemical processes
  2. Various international projects funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Alexander von Humboldt foundation and the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF)
  3. Several projects with industrial partners from the field of electrochemical surface finishing
